What is ZteaM?
ZteaM Cycling is a national cycling organization with
regional chapters that supports club riding and racing.
We cater to men and women -- beginner, novice, or
experienced, as well the more serious racer types.
Who founded ZteaM and why?
Hunter Ziesing left his 20 year Wall Street career to
spread his passion for cycling health and fitness to
others.
I am already
a member of another cycling club, why join Zteam?
ZteaM has a national
presence and the buying power to pass on deals to
members. ZteaM promotes products found or suggested by
its members and not just products we get deals on.
Moreover, we give back nearly 80% of sponsor revenues to
our members who contribute their time and effort to
ZteaM. We also fund our own national Elite U27 cycling
team and part of your dues goes to support them.
What are the other benefits to joining?
Members enjoy group rides, training, and nutrition
advice as well as many product deals on clothing and
equipment both nationally and through local businesses.

What is a ZteaM
chapter?
A
chapter is like a franchise or its own club within ZteaM.
Each chapter has its own blog, calendar, leadership, and
various local vendors such as a local bike shop which
caters to ZteaM members in that particular area. As a
national ZteaM member, you are free to interact with any
chapter should you be in that particular area. Just
contact the chapter leader.
What is your typical member profile?
All
ages and all types. Anyone who can ride a bike and ride
in a group. While we have a reputation of being racing
oriented, we are not. Many of our members are crossing
over into cycling from running.
What if there is no ZteaM Chapter in my area?
Consider
starting one!
You
only need one person to start a chapter.
What is the geographic area and size of chapters?
There are no restrictions. We have 4 chapters in the SF
bay area (example, Marin County, San Francisco, Napa,
and Berkeley). We all intermingle but chapters run
autonomously.
What about women and ZteaM?
Besides promoting youth, getting women into the sport is
one of our biggest objectives. We even have our own
women’s clothing line, ZGirl. Many of our clinics are
aimed at women.
Do I have to race if I join?
Absolutely not! Actually only a very small percentage
of our members race their bikes.
ZteaM is largely about getting new entrants into the
sport. We are a club trying to take the intimidation
out of cycling.
Do you have a racing program?
Yes,
we have a CAT 1 Elite team that is generally made up of
men under age 27. They race nationally and are funded by
the club and sponsors. Masters and Elite 2 through 5
riders race at the local chapter levels. Contact the
local chapter leaders for details.
Does ZteaM pay for my races entry fees?
In
some cases, yes. It depends on the funding that each
local chapter finds as well as the number of members in
each chapter.
How is ZteaM funded?
Member dues, regional and local sponsors (chapters keep
80%), and national sponsors.
What are annual dues?
$75
for general membership and $25 for under age 23.
What do you do with the dues and sponsor money?
Some
goes to coaching, some to local events and parties for
members, some to charity and some to funding our youth
CAT One Elite team. 80% of any locally raised money by
the chapter stays within the chapter.
Is
clothing free, what do I get?
No!.
Nothing is free unless you contribute in some way to the
club or the local community. Traditional clubs may
charge lower dues than ZteaM but few have the buying
power on clothing, national product deals, and local
retail discounts that we provide.
Who supplies your clothing?
Louis Garneau – excellent quality! No pre order
required. We stock all ZteaM items.
Can I join even if I am a member of another club?
Absolutely, several of our members are members of other
clubs. You can only race for one club but we like to
embrace all cyclist clubs. You might race for another
club but want to be part of ZteaM for its benefits or to
support the Elite cycling team. .ZteaM is a great place
to learn about cycling. Some go on to race and join
other teams but most remain dues paying members.
Can my kids join ZteaM?
Yes,
one membership covers all family members.
